Elanna, Simon
May. 28th, 2013 11:03 pmIt had been nearly three months since Elanna had unexpectedly found herself in this world, and she was finally starting to get used to it, at least a little bit. At first she was lost and disoriented, and wasn't sure where to turn to, especially in towns that were populated entirely by humans. She quickly learned to hide the fact that she was Vrykola. It was consistently met with fear and hostility, and she was driven out of the first town she found entirely because of it. That didn't surprise her. The humans she'd met at the Compound were hardly a good example of the whole, and many of them had even started out fearing the Vrykola and Lykos. The thing that confused her more was that these people called her "vampire." She thought it was some kind of insult at first, but then it seemed they didn't even know what a Vrykola was. It was like she'd fallen into a different world entirely, and the more she saw of it, the more she was convinced that somehow or another, that was what had happened.
By now, though, she was starting to learn the ways of this world, mostly thanks to the tailor who had been kind enough to take her in. She had pretended to have amnesia at first, using that as the reason for the gaps in her knowledge of this world. It was only later that parts of the truth came out. Much as she tried to hide it, it was inevitable that someone she spent so much time around would learn she was a Vrykola. Daniel had been frightened, just like everyone else. But he knew her well enough to give her a chance to explain--what she was, why he didn't need to be afraid of her, and what little she could explain of how she got here. He had let her stay, and chose to keep her secrets. To this day, he was the only one she had trusted with any of it.
As for tonight, she was on her own inside the shop, working on the day's sewing. It was after regular hours, but she often stayed working by candlelight. Daniel had become even more sympathetic to her odd sleep habits once he had learned the truth, and he didn't mind having the shop attended late, on the off chance a rare evening customer would happen by.
